Vintage Afghan Baluch Cobalt Balisht Textile – 1′6″ × 2′7″
$89.99
This one-of-a-kind vintage textile is attributed to the Afghan Baluch weaving tradition.
A vivid cobalt-blue field provides the backdrop for a bold cross-form central medallion woven in burgundy, red, brown and muted green. Golden-yellow outlines emphasize the angular design, while four stepped brown motifs balance the upper and lower portions of the field.
The inner border features repeating floral and geometric forms in red, green, brown and slate blue. A wider navy and burgundy border surrounds the composition with diagonal golden-yellow motifs and finely patterned guard bands.
Its narrow proportions are associated with the traditional balisht format, historically used for rectangular cushion and storage-bag textiles. Since the original backing or closure is not present or documented, the piece is offered as a balisht-format bag face or small decorative rug.
Measuring approximately 18 × 31 inches, it may be displayed as wall art, layered across a bench or console, used beside a bed or adapted into a decorative cushion front.
