Vintage Afghan Baluch Pictorial Animal Textile – 2′3″ Square

This one-of-a-kind vintage pictorial textile is attributed to the Afghan Baluch weaving tradition.

Large dark green angular forms create a bold symmetrical composition against the warm ivory field. Four stepped burgundy medallions surround a central vertical geometric motif, while small animals, birds, trees and scattered tribal symbols animate the surrounding space.

A richly patterned dark border frames the design in burgundy, brown, rust and ochre. Subtle fading, slight asymmetry and visible edge fibers reflect its handmade construction and vintage history.

Its square proportions are associated with traditional bag-face and cushion-front textiles. Since the original backing or bag structure is no longer present, the piece is offered as a pictorial textile or small decorative accent rug.

At approximately 27 inches square, it may be used as wall art, displayed across a bench or console, adapted into a cushion front or placed as a small decorative floor accent.
