Vintage Afghan Baluch Pictorial Animal Rug – 1′9″ × 2′3″

This one-of-a-kind vintage pictorial rug is attributed to the Afghan Baluch weaving tradition.

Its dark navy-black field presents a lively symmetrical arrangement of stylized birds, four-legged animals, flowers and tree-like geometric forms. Bright green and indigo birds alternate with deep burgundy animals, while gold, orange, pink and red details enliven the composition.

A series of graphic borders surrounds the central scene. Orange scrolling motifs frame the inner and outer edges, while a burgundy band features repeating stars and branching decorative forms. Short ivory fringe completes both ends.

Measuring approximately 21 × 27 inches, this compact handmade piece works beautifully beside a bed, in a small entryway or office, or displayed vertically as a distinctive wall textile.

Naturally occurring pile variation, subtle fading, fringe wear and slight irregularity reflect its vintage age and handcrafted construction.
